Seeking young actors for
MAKE BELIEVE by Bess Wohl, directed by Cait Robinson.
MAKE BELIEVE is part of the 2025 Portland Theater Festival season, a three-show summer season of professional theater. PTF Founder and Artistic Director is Dave Register. Managing Director is Jenn London. Producer Bari Robinson. Casting By Kendall Cooper. PTF celebrates its 5th Anniversary this summer.

Four young siblings recreate their everyday lives in a game of make-believe in their attic, while a more sinister reality unfolds in the world beneath them. Defying all narrative expectations, MAKE BELIEVE is a poignant meditation on the imprint of childhood trauma on adulthood, and the remarkable resilience of children and family.

Last Performance: August 10, 2024
Compensation: Competitive stipend
Audition Info: A First Round of auditions will be held in person in Portland, ME on SATURDAY March 15th and SUNDAY March 16th. Auditions will be conducted in a group setting with other children, featuring theater games and physical play.
Child will only be needed for one of the two audition days. Please indicate which date you prefer when submitting.

**PLEASE NOTE** This is not a kid’s play. This is a professional theater production containing adult themes and adult language that features four child actors in prominent roles. Script will be made available upon request. Please only submit if your child can be fully available for the full rehearsal and performance period. Any nominal conflicts must be submitted in advance of casting.
CASTING FOR THE FOLLOWING ROLES:

CHRIS: Seeking actors ages 12-15 to play 12. Boy. Any ethnicity. Group leader who tries to take responsibility for his siblings. When the siblings play ‘house’ he plays Dad. Prankster who likes to joke and tease his siblings. Playful, good with younger children. Silly and inventive. This is a big role; previous stage experience is strongly encouraged.

KATE: Seeking actors ages 10-14 to play 10. Girl. Any ethnicity. Classic Oldest Daughter. Rule-abiding and good in school. Intuitive and imaginative. When the siblings play ‘house’ she plays Mom. When her siblings annoy her she dreams of being adopted by the Princess of Monaco.

ADDIE: Age 7-10 to play 7. Girl. Any ethnicity. Lives in a world of make-believe and magical play. Spontaneous and theatrical. Loves to play with her doll. When the siblings play ‘house’ she plays the baby.

CARL: Age 5-7 years old to play 5. Open to any gender to play a boy. Any ethnicity. Physical, creative, playful. Does a great impression of a dog. A good listener.
